New 2024 WR450F model: a true master for everything

Brand new WR450F model: exceptionally manageable power, higher level of agility

A true jack-of-all-trades

The new 2024 WR450F model is the lightest, slimmest and fastest 450cc enduro motorcycle Yamaha has ever produced. The next-generation WR450F is based on the new-generation YZ450F motocross model, which has proven its winning potential in MXGP and AMA Supercross races, thus delivering exceptionally manageable performance, easily adjustable power and a higher level of agility.

On the new enduro motorcycle, we have drastically improved the styling, as the latest YZ450F model features an extremely compact body that has already received numerous accolades for its high level of agility. The 2024 WR450F motorcycle boasts numerous design changes and enduro-specific adjustments—including a redesigned electronic control unit (ECU) with refined FI management, modified chassis rigidity and suspension settings for WR models with a lower ride height—along with a larger fuel tank and comprehensive enduro motorcycle specifications.

All-new, more powerful and lighter engine modeled after the YZ450F

The latest generation of the WR450F model, featuring a rearward-slanting cylinder head developed on the basis of the winning YZ450F engine, delivers increased power thanks to a new, highly efficient intake port that, with a redesigned intake manifold, provides a straighter path to the 39 mm titanium intake valves.

In addition to being lighter and slimmer than the previous model, the high-tech 450cc dry-sump engine also features a new forged piston, a lightweight cylinder block, a plain big-end connecting rod bearing, and a new timing chain assembly, all designed to handle higher performance.

Increased capacities with efficient air management and IF setting

The air management system on the 2024 WR450F has been completely redesigned, as the airbox draws air from the rear of the vehicle through openings in the new side covers, frame, and fuel tank. Also included is a newly designed short muffler, which improves mass centralization and emphasizes the compact feel of the WR450F motorcycle. A revised ECU unit is also installed, and WR-model-specific FI settings are designed to deliver more manageable power at lower RPMs with strong, steady torque, alongside exceptional mid- and high-speed performance.

New diaphragm spring clutch for a lighter feel

Due to its lower weight and lighter feeling of connection, the 2024 WR450F features a newly designed disc-spring clutch with eight optimized friction plates characteristic of WR models. We combined the primary gear and housing, replacing the 6 springs of the previous model with a single disc spring, which allows for better control when dropping and slipping the clutch in slow turns.

Lightweight 5-speed gearbox with a long gear ratio

The newly designed 5-speed transmission with a long gear ratio features a greater distance between the main and drive shafts, and the main shaft gears are wider for increased durability at a lower weight. The long gear ratios allow the rider to achieve the best performance in everything from slow riding on demanding terrain to fast outdoor riding.

New compact aluminum chassis

The new chassis of the WR450F model generally shares the same design as the latest generation of the YZ450F model and includes numerous dedicated technical changes that make the motorcycle suitable for enduro racing as well as continuous riding on open terrain. A key change to the new frame is the shifted steering head, which is positioned 15 mm lower than before—and the 2024 aluminum bilateral beam frame, together with redesigned tank rails featuring a new U-shaped profile at the rear, ensures a lower center of gravity for more agile cornering.

Compared to the design used on the successful YZ450F motocross model, the frame of the WR450F enduro motorcycle benefits from modified frame flexing characteristics that are tailored for better impact absorption. Due to slight lateral flexing when absorbing impacts on rough terrain, the WR450F frame provides a more forgiving ride that helps reduce rider fatigue and offers greater control over the riding surface. Other new enduro-specific features include dedicated engine mounts with added flexibility.

Slimmer and more compact armor for easier driver mobility

The new WR450F body features exceptionally slim shrouds that are 50 mm narrower than before – additionally, the mid-section is much slimmer and the seat profile is flatter, making it easier for the rider to change body position during braking, acceleration, and cornering.

Compact side panels form part of the highly efficient new rear air intake duct, while smaller front and rear fenders emphasize the slimmer look of the WR450F, making it Yamaha's most agile 450cc enduro model. The new front fender also allows for improved airflow to the radiator for more efficient cooling, and the new rear fender design incorporates a curved underside, making it easier for the rider to grip the motorcycle when moving it physically.

Shorter-travel KYB suspension for a lower seat

The front and rear suspension of the WR450F model are the best in their class and renowned for their excellent performance at various speeds and on various terrains. Compared to the latest YZ450F model, the 2024 WR450F has 10 mm less front and rear travel, resulting in a lower seat and center of gravity. The combined effect of the vehicle and rider sitting 10 mm lower has a significant impact on the motorcycle's handling—especially when cornering at low speeds on demanding terrain.

In addition to the lower ride height, the riding position on the 2024 WR450F is further improved by positioning the footpegs lower, increasing the distance between the rider's hips and feet by 10 mm – while the handlebars are now also moved slightly closer to the rider. The new triangular rider position ensures a more natural riding position for a greater sense of unity between rider and machine and a higher level of chassis control.

KYB forks are equipped with a new manually adjustable compression damping mechanism that allows suspension adjustment without tools – while the combination of reinforced fork seals and redesigned fork guards, which better protect the tubes from dirt and debris, helps extend seal life.

Simplified Power Tuner app for comprehensive management

Yamaha has introduced wireless tuning on 4-stroke off-road competition models, and the upgraded Power Tuner app for the WR450F is designed to take this tuning a step further. The revamped app now features a Quick Tuning function, allowing the rider to easily select any engine setting from Smooth to Aggressive with just a tap of a slider on their smartphone. This is a simple and intuitive feature that allows the rider to choose different engine power settings suitable for riding conditions. Meanwhile, the new Lap Timer feature gives riders and teams insight into which settings are achieving the best performance.

The Power Tuner app continues to retain the previous 4 x 4 matrix (16 values), allowing drivers to precisely adjust values regarding fuel injection timing and ignition timing.

New traction control system

Every aspect of the new WR450F model is designed to provide the rider with a higher level of control in various conditions, and the new traction control system is another example of how this high-tech enduro vehicle is designed to allow riders of various experience levels to reach their maximum potential. This electronic control system technology includes two levels of assistance and an off function, and by controlling the ignition, it temporarily retards power when rear wheel slip is detected.

Multifunction handlebar switch

Riders can easily select different engine performance and traction control settings using the multi-function switch on the left handlebar. They can also upload personal settings to the motorcycle using the Power Tuner app, and select the best settings right while riding to achieve optimal performance as riding conditions change.

Comprehensive specification, ready for enduro

The WR450F model is fully prepared for enduro and features a lightweight 18-inch rear wheel, enduro tires, lighting, instruments, a side stand, and a radiator fan. The fuel tank capacity is 7.4 liters, making it larger than that on the YZ450F model, and the airbox can be accessed without tools—while the enduro specification is completed by an engine skid plate and an enduro silencer.
