R1M-inspired colors and premium finish
The high status of the SP model is indicated by the exclusive Icon Performance color inspired by the R1M model. These colors, inspired by the Supersport series, reinforce the sporty character of the MT-09 SP and emphasize the close technological ties with the R1M—Yamaha's most advanced factory motorcycle of all time. A premium finish, such as the brushed aluminum swingarm, further enhances the high-quality look and feel of this motorcycle.
Adaptive Yamaha TRACK Ride Control Settings
In addition to the three factory-preset riding modes SPORT, STREET, RAIN and two additional customisable modes, the MT-09 SP exclusively adds TRACK modes, allowing you to tailor four additional patterns for specific track scenarios. The individual TRACK modes enable more refined and specialised settings, including the ability to choose between two engine braking management settings and the option to alter the level of brake control. In addition, you can also switch off the rear ABS to further enhance track performance.
Top Brembo Stylema® brake calipers
The new Brembo Monoblock Stylema® brake calipers improve braking performance with the latest technology from the famous Italian company. The calipers feature a thinner piston and a smaller brake pad surface area compared to conventional calipers, while being lighter, more rigid, and offering better braking control. In addition, larger diameter pistons are used for greater braking forces, allowing you to experience a new level of braking performance.
Exclusive fully adjustable suspension systems
The SP model's premium suspension brings supersport-level handling and precision to the Hyper Naked class. The 41 mm DLC-coated KYB forks and Öhlins rear shock feature a higher spring rate, ensuring exceptional stability during more energetic and sporty riding. Their setup can be precisely adjusted to suit various riding conditions, as the forks are fully adjustable for preload, rebound damping, and compression damping, while the Öhlins shock is equipped with a remote preload adjuster that allows for quick and easy changes.
Smart key system
With a leap in technological progress, the MT-09 SP becomes the first Hyper Naked model featuring Yamaha's Smart Key system. If the smart key is within a certain range, such as in a pocket, the engine is started by pressing and turning the newly designed switch. The completely new switch also features the ability to lock and unlock the fuel tank cap, further simplifying the ride.
6-axis inertial measurement unit and lean-sensitive rider aids
A compact six-axis inertial measurement unit, developed from the R1 model, powers the MT-09's high-tech rider aids, including a three-mode traction control system (TCS), slide control system (SCS), lift control system (LIF), and brake control system. This cutting-edge technology also incorporates a back-slide control (BSR) which, by controlling the level of torque produced, ensures stabilization when the rear wheel locks up from over-braking.
5-inch color TFT display with connectivity and navigation
The 5-inch TFT color instrument cluster allows you to choose from five different themes, including the TRACK theme for the SP model, to suit your individual requirements and riding conditions, which you can navigate using the brand-new handlebar switches. Via the MyRide app, you can connect your smartphone to the new TFT display to receive message and call notifications and listen to music*. Full-map navigation is also available via the free Garmin StreetCross app, making every journey easier. *Bluetooth headset connected to the MT-09 SP motorcycle required. Headset not included.
A more immersive driving position
The MT-09 SP is renowned for its agility and stability, aided by refined ergonomics that allow the rider to feel at one with the motorcycle, offering greater freedom of movement for various riding styles. To this end, the handlebar position is now lower and features two adjustable positions, and the newly designed footpegs are also adjustable. The new two-piece seat further enhances the sense of freedom while riding.
Sound enhancement mask for a better driving experience
One of the most distinctive features of the MT-09 motorcycle is its roar, which brings a smile to your face and sparks a feeling of pure adrenaline with every twist of the throttle. The MT-09 model features specially designed air intake ducts that highlight high-frequency sounds, particularly at higher speeds, amplified by the sound booster cowl on top of the fuel tank, thereby transferring the liveliness of the CP3 engine directly to you.
Latest EU5+ compliant 890cc CP3 engine
The liquid-cooled three-cylinder engine is lightweight and powerful, delivering more torque at low RPMs. The acoustic harmony resulting from the combination of the induction sound and exhaust note gives the CP3 engine a distinctive roar, which enhances the feeling of acceleration. Fuel injectors increase efficiency, while optimized gear ratios and a refined A&S assist and slipper clutch ensure high engine power output.
Lightweight aluminum pressure die-casting
The compact die-cast aluminum frame (Controlled Filling) is a modern take on the iconic Deltabox design, providing high chassis rigidity for exceptional rider feedback and stability. The optimized swingarm pivot structure and the lightweight, sleek chassis give a more relaxed feel, making the MT-09 SP your partner for all types of sporty riding.
New intuitive switch, turn signal functions and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS)
The newly integrated handlebar switch assemblies enable the operation of a broader range of MT-09 SP functions, including smartphone connectivity, navigation, and riding modes, as well as exploring additional menu options. Intuitive new turn signal features further enhance the riding experience. A light click of the indicator switch flashes the turn signals three times, which is useful when changing lanes, while a full click of the switch triggers continuous flashing. The turn signals turn off automatically after 15 seconds and once the motorcycle has traveled more than 150 meters. The new Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) function responds to sudden braking by activating the hazard lights.
